The Truth

The street wear scene has been growing at a ridiculous rate throughout the past few years.  The years prior to that street wear was a mix of brands that just called themselves street wear and were backed by cliques that would wear what they made.  Street wear has now become a collective and more defined fashion with names such as Karmaloop, 80’s Purple, Hypebeast, and others leading the way and chipping away the wack and untaseful.  For one i’m glad that i’m forcing my way into this scene for now rather than high fashion.. At least in Street Wear if you’re fake and bullshit people will see right though you and you’re out. In higher fashion scenes where the rich snobby white people roam free, bullshit is their primary language.

So a little about myself. My name is Allen Chu and 4RT of CLEAN (pronounced Art of Clean) is an evolution of hundreds of my own projects.  I’ve always been a fan of fashion but never had an outlet to express my love for it.  In May of 2007 I purchased my first digital camera, a Nikon D80, and then and there I began my own journey.  I was sucked into the automotive import scene and from there I was introduced the start of an ever evolving Street Wear scene. I’ve shot for a few brands here and there, i’ve gone to Art Center as a graphic design, ad, and photo major, and i’ve also done plenty of editorial fashion for some higher end fashion brands. In the end Street Wear still fascinates me.

What I noticed was minimalistic approach to design was making a comeback, and with minimalism came extreme color palates, clean use of font, stencil art, great use of negative space, and great design.  There have also been countless brands without the ability to combine all the aspects of good design and end up with terrible pieces.  My goal for 4RT of CLEAN is to promote clean art and design.  Althought i’d love to be like HYPEBEAST or SNOBIETY and keep you updated with everything released, the truth of the matter is I just do not have the attention span to sit down and scour the web everyday, neither is that my goal.

My goal is to bring you editorial features on the freshest and cleanest brands.. the brands that deserve recognition.  This will include fresh original content shot by myself as long as brands willingly give me a hand with products, and with stories written by myself, Pearl Nalani (she’ll introduce herself soon), and guest editors heavily involved in the Street Wear Scene.  Of course clean design is relative and subjective, but there’s always a reason certain brands make it big and others don’t.  That’s not to say that just because Ed Hardy is big that it’s a great brand.. No.. only those mindless zombies with no sense of fashion that follow the cookie cutter lifestyle where the majority deem something cool wear Ed Hardy; douchebags.
